Our History:

99 Jiu-Jitsu was originally founded in Brazil in 2006 by Eduardo Telles Moreira. A BJJ black belt under Fabio Gurgel, Moreira earned a reputation for being one of the most creative grapplers on the planet. Although rooted in Brazil, Moreira frequently traveled to the United States for Jiu-Jitsu competitions and to study English. Finally, he was compelled to move to the US after one of his students relocated to California. Moreira followed, and ended up establishing 99 Jiu-Jitsu HQ in San Diego in 2012. Since then, the 99 Jiu-Jitsu empire has grown to include affiliates all around the globe, with schools in the United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Canada and Hong Kong. Moreira has remained at the headquarters in California, serving as owner and head instructor. An extremely talented and experienced staff supports his efforts, including Leandro Lourenço, Francis Keller, Garry Rasse, and Eduardo’s son Jason Moreira.
